2021 The Canyonlands Tour

Moab, Here We Come!

AW, her Mom, and I teamed up with Charlie and Joanie for a 3 week adventure.  This segment is all about the drive on I-70 over the Rockies.  You'll get to go through the Eisenhower Tunnel and see our setup at the Slickrock Campground (which I would not recommend)

Arches National Park

I have wanted to visit Arches for so long... we were in this area in February on the way back from our Tour of Arizona but we did not come to Arches because I didn't want a fly-by visit.  I wanted to absorb all the park has to offer which is just what we did.  My only regret is I did not get to see Landscape Arch which will be gone someday in the not-too-distant future due to erosion.

Canyonlands National Park

This national park has so much to offer.  If you are a hiker, there are many trails that you can access that have some of the most sweeping vistas imaginable.  We spent most of our time in the Islands In The Sky which is a huge mesa overlooking the Colorado and Green Rivers.  Someday we will go back to visit the Needles and the Maze.

Capitol Reef National Park

This gorgeous park surrounds a long wrinkle in the earth known as the Waterpocket Fold, with layers of golden sandstone, canyons and striking rock formations. Among the park's sights are the Chimney Rock pillar, the Hickman Bridge arch, and Capitol Reef, known for its white sandstone domes. In the north are the towering monoliths of Cathedral Valley

Grand Staircase Escalante

I really wanted to see this National Monument and it did not disappoint!  It is rugged but majestic.  Definitely a keeper!  One of my favorite parts was Upper Dry Fork Trail which takes you through Peek-A-Boo & Spooky Gultch.  Make sure you have the trail loaded into All-Trails or some other hiking App.

Dinosaur National Monument

In 1909, paleontologist Earl Douglass discovered eight dinosaur bones in a sandstone hill in the Utah desert – beginning the Carnegie Fossil Quarry that achieved worldwide fame as one of the most ecologically complete assemblage of Late Jurassic dinosaurs. Today, visitors can see the remains of numerous species of dinosaurs  that are 149 million years old.
